Lady Bears fall; Bears clinch top seed in region tourney with win

The Houston Co Bears hosted the Coffee Trojans in a region battle earlier tonight and the result was the Lady Trojans winning big 82-26 and the Bears winning 85-64. The girls’ game was all Coffee from start to finish as they led 25-8 after one and 54-16 at halftime to usher in a six-minute third and fourth quarter as the visitors would go on to win 82-26 to remain undefeated in region play.

Carrdreal Pearson led Coffee in scoring with 22 points followed by Jasmine Porter with 17 points and Iryonna Lewis with 14 points while HoCo was led in scoring by Alaina Coley with 8 points. The Lady Bears fall to 0-22 overall; 0-9 in region play.

The boys’ game would be closely contested for two and a half quarters as the host would lead 17-15 after one and 35-32 going into the locker room. The Black, Silver, and White would lead 47-44 in the third quarter before ending the frame on a 14-2 run to lead 61-46 going into the fourth.

The Bears kept the Trojans at bay and would go on to win 85-64 to sweep the regular season series and clinch the top seed in the Region 2-AAAAA Tournament next week and clinch a spot in the AAAAA Playoffs. Josh Jackson led HoCo in scoring with 17 points followed by Malik Gillespie with 15 points, Mahkel Stephens with 12 points, and Braylin Mills with 10 points.

Khyolic Paulk led Coffee in scoring with 13 points followed by Xavien Littleton with 12 points and Jeremiah Bazell with 10 points. The Black, Silver, and White improve to 17-6 overall; 8-1 in region play and will make the long road trip to take on Thomas Co Central tomorrow afternoon to wrap-up the regular season.
