Yesterday in Tifton is where both HoCo and Veterans basketball teams played in the region tournament and it started with the girls’ 3rd place match between HoCo and Thomas Co Central and the Lady Jackets defeated the Lady Bears 57-43 to claim the 3-seed in 1-AAAAAA entering the State Playoffs while HoCo will be the 4-seed.
The boys’ 3rd place match followed suit between Veterans and host Tift Co and the Blue Devils knocked off the Warhawks 63-58 to claim the 3-seed and Veterans will be the 4-seed in the AAAAAA State Playoffs. Next up was the girls’ Region Championship Game between Veterans and Tift Co and the Lady Blue Devils knocked off the Lady Warhawks 51-47 to claim the 1-seed while Veterans will be the 2-seed in the AAAAAA State Playoffs.
The boys’ Region Championship Game was the final contest of the tournament between the HoCo Bears and Lee Co Trojans and the Bears lost a heartbreaking battle 45-44 to the Trojans. Lee Co will be the 1-seed while HoCo will be the 2-seed going into the AAAAAA State Playoffs.
The Veterans Lady Warhawks will host the Lakeside (Atlanta) Lady Vikings next Tuesday at 6pm in the First Round while the Veterans boys will travel to play St. Pius X either next Tuesday or Wednesday. The HoCo Lady Bears will travel to play Marist next Wednesday at 5:30pm while the Bears will host North Atlanta either next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Elsewhere, the Mary Persons Lady Bulldogs played in their region championship game against Peach Co and won a low scoring contest 33-31 to claim the 1-seed in 2-AAA and they will host Liberty Co in Round One next Tuesday or Wednesday and the Mary Persons boys lost to Jackson 55-49 in the 3rd place match and they will be the 4-seed going into the Playoffs and they will travel to play Savannah Country Day next Tuesday or Wednesday in the First Round.
