HoCo overpowers Lowndes in home opener to split season series

The HoCo Bears baseball team rematched the Lowndes Vikings last night in their home opener and this time, the Bears would be victorious by blowing out the Vikings 10-2 to pick up win number one of 2024.

The visitors struck first to lead 1-0 in the top half of the first before HoCo would tie and take the lead for good by leading 3-1 after one, 5-1 after two (the last of the second is where SP Kai Decker hit his first career home run, a two run jack to right by the way), 8-1 after three, and 10-1 after four. Lowndes put up one more run in the top of the seventh while the Bears went scoreless the last three innings.

HoCo was led in rbis by Kai Decker with 4 followed by Kendall Jackson with 2, and Noah Odom, Ethan Buffone, and Vick Gann with one each. Decker pitched four innings on the mound and surrendered one run (unearned) on two hits, walking none, and striking out eight. The Bears’ relievers consisted of seniors Camden Cunningham, JT Withers, and Isaac Velez and they combined to strike out four, walking two, allowing one earned run, and allowing two hits.

The Vikings’ pitchers combined to allow 10 runs (eight earned) on nine hits, walking six, and striking out 14 and they had one rbi on offense and that came via Cason Fletcher. HoCo improves to 1-1 on the season and will hit the road later this morning to Fayette County to take on the Whitewater Wildcats at 1pm while Lowndes falls to 2-1 and will travel to Leesburg to play Lee Co next Monday.
