Bears dial in on new goal after playing in Hoover

The HoCo Bears are coming off a two-day stretch of playing four games up in Hoover, AL… picking up three wins in the process & are back home preparing for the next phase of the 2023 season… region play. The Bears traveled to play in the Hoover PG Showdown last week & were originally supposed to start play last Thursday but got moved to Friday due to the severe weather that was forecasted in the area.

HoCo defeated Helena 10-6, North Broward Prep 7-6, & Central-Phenix City 5-4 in their first three match-ups but fell 13-1 in five innings to IMG Academy in the Championship match in the blue bracket.

“Well its just good growth moments you know we’ve pretty much gone through the top of what we would consider our rotation pitching wise & you know we’ve got guys that we still think are talented & can compete but they’re still trying to earn innings & experience to be able to compete in the bigger games like the first three we’d had & that’s exactly what that game was its a great measuring stick as far as being able to tell us you know… the margin for error is just so little when you play a team that talented.” said head coach Matt Hopkins earlier this afternoon in an interview with Sportsmic team member Cole Powell.

The Bears are set to open region play @ county rival Northside tomorrow evening at 6pm. Here is the rest of HoCo’s schedule prior to the NHSI Tournament in North Carolina that begins March 29th:
Tuesday March 7th @ Northside
Friday March 10th vs Northside DH
Tuesday March 14th @ Veterans
Friday March 17th vs Veterans DH
Tuesday March 21st vs Thomas Co Central
Friday March 24th @ Thomas Co Central DH
