Bears overpower Northside in second half after a slow start

The HoCo Bears traveled to McConnell-Talbert Stadium for the second time in three weeks to take on county and region rival Northside earlier tonight and the final result was a 42-14 Black, Silver, and White victory. The Bears started out real slow and flat against the Blue, White, and Orange as they failed to score on their first drive of the game.

The Eagles struck first with a rush TD and the PAT made it 7-0 with 4:23 remaining in the first which would be the score heading into the second. HoCo got on the board with 10:05 remaining in the first half when RB Amir Thomas ran for a 30+ yd TD and the PAT made it 7-7.

The Black, Silver, and White took the lead with 5:22 remaining in the first half when AJ Hill found Ricky Johnson for a TD reception and the PAT made it 14-7 in favor of the visitors. Northside did not go away as they were able to drive down the field along with eating away a lot of clock and with :12 to go in the first half, JC Coney caught a 5 yd jump pass TD and the PAT tied the game at 14 all which would be the score at halftime.

The Bears received the second half kick and would not take long to hit paydirt as with 11:37 remaining in the third, RB Ryan Taleb would score on the ground from 1 yard out and the PAT made it 21-14 HoCo…. a lead they would keep for good. The Black, Silver, and White got the ball back and with 4:49 remaining in the third… Christian Stokes scored a rush TD and the PAT made it 28-14 HoCo.

The visitors would score again with :55 remaining in the third when Ryan Taleb found paydirt with a 6 yd rush TD and the PAT made it 35-14 Bears going into the fourth. The Black, Silver, and White would add one more score with 10:36 remaining in the game when AJ Hill found Ricardo Tarver for a 40 TD reception and the PAT made it 42-14 HoCo.

Both team’s next possessions would end in a turnover on downs in the red zone and HoCo eventually ran out the clock to preserve the 42-14 region blowout victory which was sloppy at times.

The Bears improve to 6-1 overall, 1-1 in region play and will have a BYE next week and will return to action Saturday Afternoon October 21st at home against the Thomas Co Central YellowJackets in a pivotal region battle at 2pm while the Eagles fall to 3-4 overall, 1-1 in region play and will also have a BYE next week and will return to action Friday October 20th when they host the Lee Co Trojans.
