The HoCo Bears made the trip to Tifton to take on the Tift Co Blue Devils in a non-region battle after being region foes the previous two seasons and the result was a strong Black, Silver, and White victory 42-19. The Bears led 21-6 at halftime and would double it’s score in the second half and would lead 42-13 down the stretch before the host scored six more points but HoCo would keep the game from getting any closer to win 42-19 to finish non-region play at 4-1.
The Bears will have next week off before being the designated visitors when they open region play against county rival Veterans in the Battle for Freedom Field in two weeks.
Elsewhere; the Jones Co Greyhounds hosted the Union Grove Wolverines in a region battle and the Purple, Gold, and White would emerge victorious in a tough battle to win 21-14. The host would orchestrate a 95 yard drive that would be capped by a 49 yard Jaivon Solomon touchdown reception from Devon Edwards and the PAT would make the score 7-0 Greyhounds with 4:49 remaining in the first quarter.
The host would double it’s lead with a 97 yard touchdown drive to lead 14-0 before the Wolverines cut the lead in half to trail 14-7 which would be the score at halftime with the Purple, Gold, and White in the lead. Jones Co would go up 21-7 when Hicks scored on a 16 yard scamper. The visitors would once again cut the JoCo lead in half to trail 21-14 and the rest of the contest would be a scoreless defensive battle.
The Purple, Gold, and White almost put the game to bed but an offensive PI would wipe a potential fourth touchdown off the board and Union Grove tried to desperately get to downfield late but the Greyhounds would pick off a pass to run out the clock and win 21-14. Jones Co improves to 4-1 overall; 3-1 in region play and will have next week off before traveling to play at Stockbridge in two weeks.
