Eagles and Bulldogs fall

The Mary Persons Bulldogs hosted the Troup Tigers out of West Georgia in a critical region battle earlier tonight and the result was a Tigers’ victory 24-17 to hand the Black, Gold, and White their first loss of 2024. The Bulldogs fall to 3-1 overall; 1-1 in region play and will have next week off before hosting the Upson-Lee Knights in two weeks.

Elsewhere, the Northside Eagles returned to action earlier tonight after having last week off against the Burke Co Bears in Waynesboro and the result was a low-scoring Burke Co victory 14-6. The Eagles struck first early in the first quarter when Cody Nelson made a 23 yard FG to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. The host responded with a 59 yard touchdown pass and the PAT made the score 7-3 Bears, a lead they would keep for the remainder of the contest.

Burke Co’s QB Vandiver scored on a 10 yard scamper and the PAT made the score 14-3 in favor of the host in the second quarter and that would be the score at halftime. The scored remained this way until a little over two minutes left in the fourth quarter when Cody Nelson made another 23 yard FG to make the score 14-6 Burke Co. The Blue, White, and Orange kicked the onside kick and the Bears recovered and were able to run out the clock and get the victory.

Northside falls to 2-2 on the season and will make the short trip west to Fort Valley to play the Peach Co Trojans next Friday Night.
