The HoCo Bears are set to begin region play in the extremely difficult region 1-AAAAAA at home against the talented Lee Co Trojans tonight at Freedom Field. Coming into this marquee battle… the visiting Trojans are 4-1 on the season with their lone loss being at AAAAAAA Colquitt Co losing 37-20.
Lee Co returned 21 starters from last season’s team including star junior RB Ousmane Kromah who wears #32 and will be the main key player to watch for on the visitor’s side tonight. The Trojans are averaging 40.2 ppg on offense and are allowing an avg of 19.2 ppg on defense for a differential of +21.0 ppg.
The Black, Silver, and White are 5-0 on the season for the second consecutive year and their extremely potent offense has powered them through the first half of 2023. The Bears are averaging 50.0 ppg on offense and are allowing an avg of 16.0 ppg on defense for a differential of +34.0 ppg.
HoCo junior QB AJ Hill is having a fantastic season thus far throwing for 1,254 yds, 18 touchdowns to 1 interception which occurred a week ago with just over a minute remaining against Warner Robins. So far in his career, Hill has totaled 5,944 passing yards with 66 touchdowns thrown to 13 interceptions.
Lee Co is a perfect 9-0 in the series against the Bears but HoCo has come close to beating them three times losing 45-42 in 2010, 34-31 in overtime in 2011, and 24-20 in 2019… the other six have been decided by 20 or more points. The Bears come in ranked #3 in AAAAAA while the Trojans come in ranked #6 in AAAAAA.
This game will tell what kind of team HoCo truly has tonight. Last season, the Black, Silver, and White gave up 275 yds on the ground to Lee Co which must not happen tonight in order to come away victorious. The Trojans are a run heavy team it seems but can throw the ball when necessary.
