Lady Bears, Warhawks win; Lady Eagles earn big win over Lee County

Houston County and Veterans met for the second time this year on the hardwood Tuesday. The first time was Nov. 30, 2021 at Veterans and resulted in a win for the Lady Bears and the Warhawks – 67-45 and 69-43, respectively.

Tuesday was at Houston County. The venue changed. The results didn’t. The Lady Bears beat the Lady Warhawks 52-38. The Warhawks, the game perhaps a little closer than expected, won 56-52.

Houston County’s girls jumped out to a 9-2 lead, built it to double digits – 10, 20 at one point – and never looked back. They shot 46 percent from the field. Veterans shot 27 percent.

Houston County also improved to 12-2 overall in the non-region, but cross-town rival, contest. Veterans fell to 7-10.

On the boys’ side, the Warhawks improved to 10-7. The Bears fell to 4-10.

Elsewhere, Northside’s girls earned a big Region 1-AAAAAA win over Lee County. The Lady Eagles won 60-51 to improve to 1-2 in the division, 8-5 overall. The Lady Trojans opened region play 0-1 and slipped to just 11-2.

The boys weren’t as fortunate. They fell 69-39 to drop to 0-3 in the division, 2-10 overall. Lee County improved to 1-0, 10-6.

Perry was also on the road for a Region 2-AAAA matchup against Spalding. The Panthers’ results were unknown as of this time. The girls lost 39-30. They fell to 3-3 in the region, 4-8 overall. The Lady Jags improved also to 3-3 and 7-9 overall.
