Lady Warhawks sweep Demonettes; Demons sweep Warhawks

The Warner Robins basketball teams hosted county rival Veterans earlier this afternoon and evening and the result was the same as January 3rd, a Lady Warhawks victory and a Demons victory.

The girls game started out relatively tight as Warner Robins led 14-13 going into the second quarter. The visitors outscored the Demonettes 16-9 in the second quarter to lead 29-23 at halftime. Veterans would double their lead to 12 at the end of the third quarter with a 41-29 lead.

The Lady Warhawks would keep Warner Robins at bay in the fourth quarter to win 56-41 and sweep the season series. Gabby Minus led Veterans in scoring with 23 pts followed by Nariah Nelson with 15 pts while the Demonettes were led in scoring by Trintee Thomas with 15 pts followed by Korveanna Slaughter with 11 pts.

Veterans improves to 12-5 overall while Warner Robins falls to 13-4 overall and a loss in two of their last three games.

The last time the Veterans and Warner Robins boys played each other saw 230 combined pts with the Demons winning in a blowout 130-100 that saw Gabe Jacobs score 50 pts and 14 made National Exterminating three pt shots. How did tonight’s contest go… a high scoring game but a much closer contest and not as much pts scored this go round.

The game started similar to how it started 17 days ago with the Demons quickly scoring the first seven pts of the game until Veterans started making baskets and then Warner Robins opened up the gap to nine by the end of the first quarter with the score reading 27-18 in favor of the host.

The visitors made some headway late in the first half and the score would read Warner Robins 46 Veterans 41 at halftime. Both teams traded baskets in the third quarter with the Warhawks inching away at the deficit and by the end of the third quarter…. the game was all tied up at 72. Veterans outscored the Demons 54-45 in the second and third quarters.

The fourth quarter would stay tight for most of its 8 minute life as the Warhawks would have a four pt lead and then the host would go on a quick 9-0 run to get the lead back and keep it for good as the visitors would start to go cold on offense at the worst possible time.

Warner Robins would be able to build up the lead to double figures again and pull out the victory by a final score of 99-91. What most likely contributed to Veterans going cold on offense towards the end was that three of their biggest contributors on offense got into foul trouble and would ultimately all foul out in the fourth quarter and those three players combined for 70 of the Warhawks’ 91 pts tonight.

The Demons shot 14 free throws in the first quarter which likely led to Veterans getting into foul trouble in the second half. Warner Robins had six players in double figures tonight in pts scored led by Jay Johnson with 24 pts followed by Gabe Jacobs with 17 pts, Cam Perkins with 16 pts, Cam Flowers with 12 pts, bench player Justin Hill with 11 pts, and Isaiah Gibson with 10 pts.

All of their starting five were in double figures in pts scored also, a score correction has been made from my broadcast as Isaiah Gibson had 10 pts total, not 8 as stated in the broadcast. The Demons improve to 12-5 overall while the Warhawks fall to 12-6 overall.

Warner Robins will return to region play next Tuesday as they will host Dutchtown as the Dutchtown boys are 6-0 in region play and Veterans will also return to region play as they host Lee Co next Tuesday.
