Lee Co sweeps HoCo

The HoCo basketball teams hosted the Lee Co Trojans in a region tilt earlier tonight and the result was a Trojans’ sweep with the Lee Co girls pulling away in the second half and the Lee Co boys bouncing back from a deficit in the second half to win.

The girls’ game would stay tight throughout the entire first half with the Lady Trojans leading 14-10 after one and 22-21 at halftime. The Lady Bears came out of the half flat as they scored only four pts in the third quarter while the visitors scored 14 pts and the score was 36-25 Lee Co after three and they would keep HoCo at bay in the fourth to win 46-32 to snap an 8-game losing skid.

Taliyah Porter led Lee Co in scoring with 17 pts followed by Camya Hutcherson with 15 pts while Mady Jones led HoCo in scoring with 9 pts followed by Maddy Shinholster with 7 pts.

The Lady Trojans won their first game in four weeks and improved to 6-15 overall; 2-6 in region play while the Lady Bears fell to 8-10 overall; 3-4 in region play and these two teams split the regular season series with each other.

The boys’ game would stay close throughout the entirety of the contest as both teams’ first two field goals were National Exterminating threes to even the game at 6 a piece and the Trojans led the Bears 12-9 after one but the host would get on a run at the end of the first half with two National Exterminating threes to take a 31-25 lead going into the locker room.

In the third quarter, HoCo pushed it’s lead to 9 pts before Lee Co would clip away at the deficit and the host took a narrow 44-43 lead going into the fourth. The Bears opened the fourth quarter with a National Exterminating three but the Trojans responded quickly with an old fashioned three pt play with a hoop and the harm and they cut the gap back down to 1.

The host had two shots that rattled out of the rim which proved to be pivotal as Lee Co was able to get the lead and keep it for good as they would ride off into the night with a 67-60 victory. The visitors outscored HoCo 42-29 in the second half and 24-16 in the fourth quarter and the Trojans swept the regular season series against the Bears.

Braden Moore and Josiah Parker each led the Trojans in scoring with 16 pts each followed by Ousmane Kromah with 10 pts while the Bears were led in scoring by Josh Jackson with 16 pts followed by Malik Gillespie with 13 pts, Malachi Jackson with 11 pts, and Devan Robinson with 10 pts.

Lee Co improves to 19-3 overall; 8-0 in region play while HoCo falls to 11-10 overall; 4-3 in region play. The Bears’ 10 losses have been by an average of 7.1 pts.

HoCo will host Thomas Co Central Saturday afternoon while Lee Co will host Tift Co Saturday Night.
