Peach Co sweeps Northside; HoCo, Veterans, Perry, and MP’s matchups all cancelled

The Northside basketball teams hosted Central Ga foe Peach Co earlier tonight and the result was a Trojans sweep with the girls winning 51-28 and the boys winning 55-46.

The girls game was Peach Co from start to finish and Northside struggled to make buckets all night long. The first quarter ended with the Lady Trojans up 7-6 and they would increase their lead to 24-16 at the half. The visitors doubled their lead from 8 to 16 pts in the third quarter with a 39-23 lead going into the fourth.

Peach Co continued to pull away in the fourth and would defeat the Lady Eagles 51-28. Northside was an abysmal 6 of 23 on free throw attempts. Atiana Gilcrest led the Lady Trojans in scoring with 11 pts followed by Alexia Howard with 10 pts and Northside was led in scoring by Nyla Spencer with 14 pts.

Peach Co improves to 4-5 on the season while the Lady Eagles fell to 6-9 on the season.

The boys game stayed close throughout the night and the game started with the Trojans scoring the first seven pts before Northside scored the next 8 pts and Peach Co would lead 18-16 over the Blue, White, and Orange at the end of the first quarter. The visitors pulled away from the host some in the second quarter by taking a 31-25 lead going into halftime.

The Eagles cut the gap down to one in the third quarter and that would be the closest they would get to Peach Co in the second half as the Trojans pulled away again and led 44-37 going into the fourth quarter. Peach Co would keep Northside at bay and would win 55-46 as the Eagles’ shooting percentage dropped tremendously in the second half.

The Trojans were led in scoring by Cam Cherry with 23 pts before fouling out in the fourth quarter followed by Alex Willock with 11 pts and Northside was led in scoring by Keron Milton with 20 pts.

Peach Co improves to 4-8 on the season and will travel to Thomaston to play the Upson-Lee Knights on Friday January 12th in their region opener and the Eagles will return to region play on Friday when they host Tift Co. The Blue, Orange, and White fell to 5-10 on the season.

Elsewhere; HoCo, Mary Persons, Perry, and Veterans all had their matchups for tonight cancelled due to the severe weather that moved through earlier today.
