Yesterday at Thomas Co Central High School is where the First Round of the Region 1-AAAAAA Tournament was held to see who advances to the semifinals and also make the Playoffs and who does not. The HoCo girls took on Lee Co for the second year in a row in this very round but the result would be different as the Lady Bears would defeat the Lady Trojans in a tight battle 38-35 to return to the Playoffs after missing the post last season.
The Northside Lady Eagles took on the Lady Yellowjackets of TCC and lost a hard fought contest 65-61 and will end their season at 8-18 overall. Northside and Veterans boys squared off and the Warhawks were too much for the Eagles as they won 93-71 to advance to the region semifinals in Tifton while Northside saw their season come to an end at 7-19 overall.
The Lady Bears, and Warhawks will join the Lady Warhawks and Bears in Tifton for the main part of the region tournament tomorrow and Friday to determine the seeding for the State Playoffs which commence next week. The HoCo girls are currently 10-12 overall while the Veterans boys are currently 16-9 overall and will take on county rival HoCo tomorrow at 5:30. Unknown who the Lady Bears will take on tomorrow.
