Warhawks shutout Eagles to avoid winless season

The Veterans Warhawks hosted county rival Northside earlier tonight and the result was a 17-0 Red, White, and Blue shutout victory to avoid the winless season. Most of the game would go scoreless until Brayden Black made a 36-yard field goal with 46 seconds remaining in quarter three to give Veterans a 3-0 lead.

The Warhawks scored a big touchdown with 4:12 remaining in the contest when Kane Byrd sacked the Eagles’ QB and forced a fumble and took the rock in on a 27-yard scoop ‘n’ score and the PAT made the score 10-0 in favor of the host.

The Red, White, and Blue would put the game away with 2:48 remaining when Northside threw a pick in the endzone and Veterans scored on a 100-yard pick six and the PAT would make the score 17-0 Warhawks and that would be the final score of the contest. The win was the host’s first victory since September 15, 2023 when they defeated Lakeside (Evans) 38-15 and Veterans’ 15-game winless streak has been snapped.

The Warhawks finish 2024 at 1-9 overall; 1-4 in region play as they have matched the fewest wins for any Houston County team since Perry in 2014. Northside finishes 2024 at 2-8 overall; 0-5 in region play and will carry an 8-game losing streak into 2025.
