2023 Veterans Football Preview: Warhawks look to return to the State Playoffs

The Veterans Warhawks Varsity Football team looks to finish above .500 for the first time since 2019 and look to return to the State Playoffs after failing to qualify one season ago. In 2022, the Warhawks finished at .500 and finished fifth in region 1-AAAAAA play with their lone region victory coming on the road against Tift Co winning 27-20. The Red, White, and Blue had non-region wins against, Richmond Academy, Griffin, Lakeside (Evans), and Northgate.

All five of Veterans’ losses were by 31 or more points. This season, the Warhawks have a lot of experience returning on both the offensive and defensive sides of the football which could prove to be beneficial during head coach Josh Ingram’s second year at the helm. The Red, White, and Blue hung around against county rival HoCo for nearly three quarters until the Bears blew the game wide open to win 70-21.

Veterans’ marquee matchups appear to be against Perry, Thomas Co Central, Lee Co, Tift Co, Northside, and HoCo. Making the Playoffs will be tough as the Warhawks play in one of the strongest regions in the state of Georgia but only time will tell on what happens for the youngest team in the county.
