2024 Northside Football: Young Eagles’ squad looks to prove itself with tough schedule

The Northside Eagles’ football team is getting ready to open the 2024 season in less than one week and this year’s team will be a young one at that. Ben Bailey enters his second year as the head coach and last season was a roller coaster after starting 2-0 with a surprise win over Jones Co and their fourth consecutive victory over Peach Co which was the Blue, White, and Orange’s 500th win in program history.

The Eagles went 2-3 in region play that included a narrow 35-34 overtime victory over Tift Co, a 29-0 shutout win over county rival Veterans, two blowout losses to county rival HoCo 42-14, (their largest loss to the Bears in the history of the rivalry) and a 56-7 loss to Lee Co. They lost to Thomas Co Central 31-16 and the Yellowjackets did not play all their starters in that game.

Northside was bounced in the First Round by Marist. This season, Northside has a strong non-region schedule that opens at home against Eagle’s Landing on Friday and will head to Milledgeville to take on Baldwin and then play longtime rival Warner Robins in game three. They will follow that up with road games against Burke Co, Peach Co, Coffee, and county rival Houston Co.

Northside will then have home games against Lee Co and Thomas Co Central and finish the regular season at county rival Veterans. The Blue, White, and Orange will have to put it together quickly if they want to compete for a playoff spot in what will likely be the toughest region in the state but who knows what the Eagles will do in 2024, the 62nd season of the program.
