The Veterans Warhawks opened 2023 at home at Herb St. John Stadium against the Richmond Academy Musketeers out of Augusta earlier tonight which resulted in a Warhawks beat down. Veterans started off slow with a couple of turnovers but were able to dial in and find their rhythm as the Red, White, and Blue struck first with 2:13 left in the first as Jake Maxwell found Preston Bird for a 63 yd passing touchdown and after the PAT; the score was 7-0 Warhawks.
Later in the first quarter, Veterans’ Kayleb Jackson got a pick six and the PAT made it 14-0 Warhawks going into the second quarter. Jake Maxwell found Preston Bird again for a 12 yd passing touchdown and the PAT made it 21-0 in favor of the hpst. Late in the first half; Veterans added an 8 yd rushing touchdown and the PAT made it 28-0 Warhawks going into the locker room.
The Red, White, and Blue opened the second half with a 25 yd scoop ‘n’ score touchdown by Joshua Chavous and the PAT made it 35-0 Veterans with 11:55 left in the third. Preston Bird scored his third touchdown of the night with this one coming on the ground from 5 yds out and the PAT made the score 42-0 Warhawks.
The Red, White, and Blue were able to put their subs in and late in the third quarter; ARC scored a 5 yd touchdown to get on the board and the score would be 42-6 after the PAT was blocked. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and Veterans defeated the Musketeers 42-6.
The Warhawks open 2023 at 1-0 and will return to Freedom Field to take on the Griffin Bears next Friday while Richmond Academy fell to 0-1 and will host Savannah next Friday.
