HoCo pulls away from Veterans behind strong fifth

The HoCo Lady Bears hosted county and region rival Veterans earlier this evening in the first of a critical three game region set and the result was a Black, Silver, and White victory 9-1 in five innings. The score was 2-1 HoCo going into the top half of the fifth inning where the Lady Warhawks had the bases loaded with one out on the board.

HoCo SP Claire McArthur was able to get out of the jam by striking out Maddy Kinkade and Katelyn Haines to send the game to the last of the fifth where the host got the offense going and put the game away by scoring seven runs to run-rule Veterans. The offensive onslaught by the Lady Bears were highlighted by Claire McArthur’s two rbi double and Kendall Carswell’s game-ending three run jack to make the final score 9-1 HoCo.

Kendall Carswell led the Lady Bears in rbis with three followed by Claire McArthur and Olivia Buffone with two a piece, and Kinley Snider and Ann Marie Defore with one each. Bella Fendley had the Lady Warhawks’ lone rbi of the contest. HoCo SP Claire McArthur pitched a complete game surrendering one earned run on five hits, walking four, and striking out three in the process.

Veterans SP Maddy Kinkade pitched four innings and surrendered two earned runs on five hits walking one and striking out one in the process while her reliever Kharisma White pitched 2/3rds of one inning and surrendered seven earned runs on four hits, walking one, and striking out one in the process. HoCo improves to 12-5 overall; 6-2 in region play while Veterans falls to 13-4 overall; 5-3 in region play and these two will play in a doubleheader on Thursday at Veterans.
