Warhawks sweep Thomas Co Central

The Veterans Warhawks hosted the Thomas Co Central Yellowjackets in a region battle earlier tonight and the result was a Warhawks’ sweep with the girls winning 76-45 and the boys winning 75-61. The girls’ game would be contested in the first half as the host would lead 28-16 after one and 38-27 at halftime.

The third quarter is where the Red, White, and Blue would put the game away as they would outscore the Lady Jackets 19-4 to lead 57-31 going into quarter four. The Lady Warhawks would keep the visitors at bay in quarter four to win in a blowout 76-45. Jessi Ortiz led Veterans in scoring with 19 points followed by Nariah Nelson with 17 points, and Madison Sheppard with 10 points.

TCC was led in scoring by Jaida Pinkins with 17 points followed by A’riyah Hall and Chan Dunbar with 11 points a piece. The Lady Warhawks improve to 12-6 overall; 4-1 in region play while the Lady Jackets fall to 9-8 overall; 1-3 in region play.

The boys’ game would feature a series of runs by both teams with the Warhawks jumping out to a 23-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Yellowjackets would open quarter two on a 9-0 run to cut the lead in half before the Red, White, and Blue would start making baskets and the score at halftime would be 32-23 in favor of the host.

The visitors would cut the gap all the way down to four points in the third quarter before a timeout was called by Veterans and they were able to get on a pivotal run to go up by 17 again late in the frame. Veterans would take a 52-40 lead going into the final quarter of play and they would keep Thomas Co Central at bay in the fourth quarter to win 75-61.

Trey Byrd would lead the Red, White, and Blue in scoring with 18 points followed closely by Aiden Sweenor with 17 points, and Tristan Abner with 13 points. The Yellowjackets were led in scoring by Colby Mullinax with 23 points followed by Eric Love III with 18 points. Veterans improves to 11-7 overall; 3-2 in region play while Thomas Co Central falls to 11-6 overall; 1-3 in region play.

The Warhawks will prepare to make the trip to Gray to take on Central Ga foe Jones Co tomorrow night.
