The Mary Persons Bulldogs hosted rival Upson-Lee in the Sweet Sixteen yesterday evening in a doubleheader and the result was a Black, Gold, and White sweep.. winning Game One 13-2 in five and winning Game Two 14-1. The host plated one in the first, seven in the second, none in the third and fourth, and five in the fifth in Game One.
Nic Arnold hit a solo jack in the last of the fifth and later.. Brady Christman hit a game ending three-run jack to give MP the 13-2 win. Christman led the Bulldogs in rbis with four followed by Cole Carr, Nic Arnold and Bradley Hendricks with two a piece, and Nick Howard with one.
SP Cole Carr pitched a complete game by surrendering two earned runs off of a two-run jack on three hits, walking none, and striking out four. Game Two saw Nic Arnold getting the designated visitors on the board with a two-run jack in the top of the first to give MP a 2-0 lead and later in inning three.. Nick Howard would hit a two-run jack to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead.
Cole Carr hit a two-rbi double in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 7-1 MP and Brady Christman would send a ball into orbit with a monster blast to left that saw the Knights’ outfielders turn and just look at it to give the Black, Gold, and White a 12-1 lead in the seventh. The Bulldogs would go on and win Game Two 14-1 to sweep the series 2-0 and advance to the Elite Eight for the second consecutive season for the first time in program history.
Nick Howard led MP in rbis in Game Two with three followed by Brady Christman, Cole Carr, Nic Arnold, Gavin Mitchell, and Bradley Hendricks with two a piece. SP Andrew Snow pitched for six innings surrendering one earned run on five hits, walking three, and striking out five while reliever Ayden Horne relief-pitched inning seven and surrendered no runs on one hit, walking none, and striking out one.
The Bulldogs improve to 19-14 overall and will travel to Fort Valley to take on Peach Co next Wednesday in the Elite Eight. Upson-Lee ends 2025 at 15-16 overall.
