Greyhounds dominate Union Grove

The Jones County Greyhounds put together their most complete performance of the season Friday night, overwhelming the Union Grove Wolverines 42–3 on the road in front of a strong visiting crowd. With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 3–2 overall and 2–2 in Region play, while the Wolverines remain winless at 0–4.

From the opening whistle, Jones County set the tone with relentless pressure, opportunistic special teams, and explosive plays on offense.

First Quarter Momentum

After turning the ball over on downs on their opening drive, Jones County’s defense forced a punt—and the special teams immediately flipped the game. Andre Hall burst through the line to block the punt, and the Greyhounds recovered at the Union Grove 39-yard line. Six plays later, Bruno Hicks capped the short drive with a 9-yard touchdown run. Jacob Watts added the extra point to give Jones County a 7–0 lead with 5:41 left in the first quarter.

Moments later, Caleb Gooden partially blocked another Wolverine punt, setting the Greyhounds up in prime position again. Although Jones County fumbled away that possession, the defense held strong, and the offense responded on the next series.

Big Plays Spark the Offense

Early in the second quarter, Kayden Canty broke loose for a 61-yard run down to the 10-yard line, bouncing off multiple tacklers in the process. Two plays later, Travis Miller followed a key block from Drew Williams into the end zone. With Watts’ PAT, Jones County extended the lead to 14–0.

Union Grove responded with its best drive of the night, moving 47 yards in seven plays before Riley Cason nailed a 38-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 14–3.

But the Greyhounds wasted no time answering. After a heads-up catch on a squib kick by lineman Nate Vaughan, Miller struck again—this time on a 47-yard dash to the end zone. Jones County entered halftime with a commanding 21–3 lead.

Second Half: All Gas, No Brakes

The Greyhounds came out of the locker room determined to put the game away. On their second play of the third quarter, quarterback Caseon Taylor connected with JR Clark for a 53-yard touchdown. Clark turned on the jets at the 40-yard line and never looked back.

Miller continued his dominant night with a 53-yard scoring run on the next possession, showcasing vision and speed to make it 35–3 midway through the third quarter.

Jones County closed the scoring with a methodical 12-play, 79-yard drive that ate up more than six minutes of game time. Taylor found Clark again—this time on a 14-yard strike to the corner of the end zone, where Clark made a highlight-reel, falling-away catch. Watts’ extra point capped the 42–3 rout.

Lockdown Defense

While the Greyhound offense piled up points, the defense was equally impressive, holding Union Grove without a touchdown. The Wolverines managed only a field goal and were forced to punt on all four of their second-half possessions.

Players of the Game
•    Offensive Player of the Game: Travis Miller, with three touchdown runs, including two from 47 and 53 yards.
•    Defensive Player of the Game: The entire Jones County defense, which stifled Union Grove all night and pitched a second-half shutout.
•    Tri-Co-Go High-Speed Player of the Game: JR Clark, for his game-breaking speed on a 53-yard touchdown and his acrobatic 14-yard scoring catch.

Final Score: Jones County 42, Union Grove 3

The Greyhounds return home next week looking to build on their momentum and continue climbing the Region 2 standings.
