The Houston County Bears capped off their regular season in dominant fashion, defeating the Jones County Greyhounds 9–2 in a Central Georgia rematch and completing a season sweep.
Jones County struck first in the top of the opening inning, with Cooper Rice launching a two-out solo home run to right field for an early 1–0 lead. Houston County responded immediately in the bottom half, taking advantage of a costly throwing error that put runners in scoring position. Ethan Kenney delivered with a two-RBI single to give the Bears a 2–1 advantage.
The Bears added to their lead in the third inning when Isaiah Galason blasted a solo home run to right, extending the score to 3–1. Galason stayed hot later in the game, driving in two more runs with a clutch hit to push the lead to 5–1. Houston County continued to build momentum, eventually stretching the margin to 6–1.
Jones County managed to string together four hits in one inning and appeared poised to cut into the deficit further, but a runner was tagged out at home plate to halt the rally. Houston County seized control from there, plating three additional runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
The Bears secured the 9–2 victory behind a strong performance from starting pitcher Tyson Ganas, who threw 4⅓ innings, allowed just one earned run, and struck out seven batters.
Offensively, Galason led the way with four RBIs, while Kenney contributed two. With the win, Houston County finishes the regular season at 22–7 and claims the top seed in Region 2-5A and will host the Lassiter Trojans the four seed out of Region 6-5A in te First Round of the state Playoffs next Friday. Jones County ends at 17–9 and enters the postseason as the fourth seed from Region 2-4A and will take on Blessed Trinity the one seed out of Region 6-4A in the AAAA State Playoffs on Wednesday.
