Warner Robins head football coach Shane Sams says the biggest takeaway from last season’s turnaround was learning how important consistency is to building a winning program. While the Demons showed growth and competitiveness, Sams believes the next step is improving execution, discipline, and maintaining focus every week throughout the season.
As a former player at Warner Robins High School, Sams says the coaches he played under had a major influence on the way he leads today. He learned the value of accountability, hard work, and building strong relationships with players — lessons that continue to shape his coaching philosophy.
Sams wants Demon football to represent toughness, pride, discipline, and commitment both on and off the field. He emphasizes creating a culture where players compete at a high level while also developing into responsible young men. He says that culture is built daily through offseason training, practices, and the expectations set within the program.
Balancing the responsibilities of being a head coach while also being a husband and father can be challenging, but Sams credits his family for helping him stay grounded and motivated through the demands of the job.
This offseason, Sams has been pleased with the effort and energy shown during workouts and spring practice. He says the offense has focused on improving tempo and execution, while the defense continues working on communication and physical play. Special teams have also been an important emphasis as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Several younger players and newcomers have already started standing out and could make an impact this fall.
For Sams, success for Warner Robins football in 2026 means competing at a championship level while continuing to grow as a team and uphold the tradition of the program. Some players to watch for in 2026 include Chandler Dyson, Zay Cannon, KJ McDavis, and Daylen Kirksey
When his coaching career is over, Sams hopes his players remember him as someone who cared about them beyond football, challenged them to improve, and helped prepare them for life after high school.
