Bears pick up big time program win over Calvary Christian, FL at the NHSI

The HoCo Bears had a rough go the previous two days at the National High School Invitational by taking back-to-back one run losses (more on that after they complete their tournament) but earlier this morning…. the Bears defeated the #2 nationally ranked Calvary Christian Warriors out of Clearwater, Florida 3-0.

HoCo plated their first run via an error in the bottom half of the second & would add a second run when Ryker Chavis hit an rbi single that ran in Hunter Chiappetta. The next four innings would go scoreless as both team’s starting pitchers were on fire throughout the game. The Bears added one more run in the bottom half of the sixth via a Hunter Chiappetta rbi single that ran in Christian Wahiwe.

The Bears finished off the game with a 1-2-3 top half of the seventh to preserve the shutout victory over the Warriors by a final score of 3-0. HoCo SP Carson Small pitched a complete game shutout by allowing 0 runs on five hits, walked three, & struck out two.

Calvary Christian SP Paul Guerne allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked one, & struck out five in five innings of work. Jaden Carlson came in to relieve Guerne in the top half of the sixth where he allowed one run (earned) on two hits, walked none, & struck out two.

The Bears improved to 19-3 overall & will get ready to take on the Jesuit Crusaders out of Portland, Oregon later today. Jesuit is currently ranked #6 nationally.
