Bulldogs open region play with shutout of Knights; Greyhounds roll over Dutchtown

The Mary Persons Bulldogs opened region play earlier this evening at the Upson-Lee Knights and the result was a 10-0 Bulldogs’ shutout victory in five innings. The Bulldogs plated three in the first, five in the second, and two in the fourth and they had six rbis by three different players with two a piece and they are Ryan Causey, Cole Carr, and Jake Gore.

MP SP Cole Carr pitched a complete game on the mound and surrendered no runs on one hit, walking three, and striking out four in the process. Upson-Lee’s pitchers combined to allow 10 runs (two earned) on four hits, walking six, and striking out five in the process. Mary Persons improves to 8-8 overall; 1-0 in region play and will host the Knights in a region doubleheader on Friday.

Elsewhere, the Jones Co Greyhounds traveled to Henry Co to play the Dutchtown Bulldogs and the Purple, Gold, and White would win big 14-5 to open the region series. The visitors got out to a 4-0 lead until Dutchtown plated four runs to tie the game in the last of the third and Jones Co would plate nine runs across innings 5-7 while the Bulldogs were shut down and the visitors got the victory 14-5.

Six Greyhounds recorded an rbi and they were led by Colin Evans and Kaylob Harris with three, followed by Brayden Lampkin with two, and Davis Upshaw, Cohen Barfield, and Dalton Lowe with one. Dutchtown had two players record one rbi each in the contest and the Greyhounds’ SP Cason Taylor pitched four innings and surrendered four earned runs on one hit, walking three, and striking out four in the process.

Reliever Landon Pettigrew pitched three relief innings and surrendered one unearned run on one hit, walking one, and striking out two in the process. Dutchtown’s pitchers combined to allow 14 runs (12 earned) on 12 hits, walking nine, and striking out nine in the process. Jones Co improves to 6-11 overall; 4-3 in region play and will host the Bulldogs in a region doubleheader on Friday.
