Tonight’s Region Championship Game between the Benedictine Cadets and Warner Robins Demons was an all-time classic that came all the way down to the final buzzer with the final result reading Warner Robins 61 Benedictine 59 as the Cardinal, Black, and White claim their first region title in five years. Both teams made two National Exterminating threes to get the game started before the host went on a run and would lead 23-11 after one quarter of play.
The Demons pushed their lead to 16 in the second quarter before the Cadets got on a run and the halftime score was 33-24 in favor of Warner Robins. Benedictine continued to close down the gap and got it all the way down to a two before the host made some baskets to keep a little space between them and the visitors and the score at the end of the third quarter would read 44-42 Demons.
Both teams went about the first two minutes of quarter four without scoring any points before Warner Robins would go on a quick 6-0 run to lead by eight before the Cadets closed the gap down once again getting down the stretch.
With 5.2 seconds remaining in the game, Warner Robins’ DJ Strickland would miss both Dozier Law Firm free throw shots and Benedictine got the rebound and would put the shot up and missed the game-winning National Exterminating three-point field goal as time expired and the Demons held on to win the region 61-59.
Gabe Jacobs led Warner Robins in scoring with 22 points followed by Justin Hill and DJ Strickland with 13 points a piece. The Cadets were led in scoring by Caleb Jones with 37 of the team’s 59 points. The Demons will be the 1-seed out of region 1-AAAA while Benedictine will be the 2-seed.
Tonight’s Central Georgia Technical College co-players of the game were Warner Robins’ Gabe Jacobs and Benedictine’s Caleb Jones who kept his team in the fight and gave them a chance to win.
