Demons walk-off Ware Co, Perry and MP win, HoCo and Jones Co fall

The Warner Robins Demons hosted the defending AAAAA State Champion Ware Co Gators earlier tonight and the game went all the way down to the final buzzer. The Demons got the scoring started with a Rasean Dinkins 2 yd rush TD and the 2-pt try was no good and the score was 6-0 Warner Robins with 8:24 remaining in the first.

The Cardinal, Black, and White extended their lead when Judd Anderson hit Isiah Canion on a 72 yd TD reception and the PAT made it 13-0 Demons with 4:57 remaining in the first. The Gators got a short field thanks to a big time kickoff return and then drove the ball down to the Warner Robins 1 yd line and fumbled the ball and the host recovered but would not get any pts on the ensuing drive.

In the second quarter, Ware Co’s Luke Hooks hit Quintin Orange on a 48 yd TD reception and the PAT made it 13-7 Warner Robins with 7:08 to go in the first half. After a pick… Ware Co capped off a 29 yd drive with a RJ Boyd two yd rush TD and the PAT made it 14-13 in favor of the visitors with 4:10 left in the first half.

The host got the ball back and drove it 74 yds downfield capped off by a Rasean Dinkins 7 yd TD run and the PAT made it 20-14 Demons with 2:49 to go in the first half and that would be the score going into halftime.

The second half was a defensive slugfest as Warner Robins could not get a first down and Ware Co had scoring opportunities and failed to put any pts on the board as the Demons blocked a field goal with 5:20 left in the third and later… the Gators threw a pass that was picked off in the endzone for a Warner Robins touchback.

The Cardinal, Black, and White finally got a sustained drive going in the fourth quarter and attempted a 35 yd field goal which would be missed. Ware Co took over at their own 20 and drove 80 yds down field and RJ Boyd ran the rock in from seven yds out to tie the game at 20 a piece and the made PAT made it 21-20 Gators with 1:02 left in the ball game.

The host got the ball back at their own 20 and with :09 left, QB Judd Anderson completed a 24 yd pass down to the Gators’ 25 yd line and prepared to try a 42 yd field goal attempt with :02 left on the clock. Alberto Medina… after missing a 35 yd FG earlier…. would make the 42 yd field goal to walk-off Ware Co and give Warner Robins the 23-21 victory over the defending AAAAA State Champions.

The Demons improve to 9-3 overall and will host the Creekside Seminoles in the Elite Eight next Friday while the Gators wrap up 2023 at 8-4 overall.

Elsewhere, the Perry Panthers made the 2 1/2 hour trip to Decatur Co to take on the Bainbridge Bearcats and the Panthers scored a touchdown and made the PAT to take a 7-3 lead in the first half and that would incredibly be the final score of the game and this would also be the lowest scored game in all of Georgia tonight.

The Maroon, Gold, and White improve to 10-2 overall and will travel to De Kalb Co next Friday to take on the Stephenson Jaguars in the Elite Eight while the Bearcats finish their 2023 season at 9-3 overall.

The Mary Persons Bulldogs hosted the Crisp Co Cougars and this game was intense in the first half as both teams racked up a combined 48 pts in the first half as the Black, Gold, and White led 28-20 at the half. The Bulldogs shut down the Cougars’ offense in the second half and pulled away to win 42-20.

Mary Persons improves to 11-1 overall and will host the Cedar Grove Saints next Friday in the Elite Eight while Crisp Co finishes their 2023 season at 7-5 overall.

The HoCo Bears traveled up to College Park to take on the Woodward Academy War Eagles and the result was a 27-7 Woodward victory. AJ Hill connected with senior Ricky Johnson for a long TD reception and the PAT was good to make the score 17-7 War Eagles in the second quarter.

The Black, Silver, and White wrap up their 2023 season at 9-3 overall while Woodward improves to 10-2 overall and will host #1 Gainesville next Friday in the Elite Eight.

The Jones Co Greyhounds traveled down to Douglas to take on the Coffee Trojans and the result was a dominant Trojans victory 45-14 to end the Greyhounds’ 2023 season at 8-4 overall while Coffee improved to 12-0 overall and will host the Cass Colonels next Friday in the Elite Eight.
