HoCo Baseball 2023 Preview: Loaded roster poised to compete

As the 2023 high school baseball season begins the HoCo Bears team is poised to compete for another state title.

This should come as no surprise to fans as the school developed a  powerhouse baseball program under former head coach, Jason Brett.  A tradition that has continued under current skipper, Matt Hopkins.

The roster for the 2023 season  is once again loaded with talent and  more experienced and mature pitching staff.    Last season, the Bears were relatively young in the pitching rotation  made up of sophomores  and juniors. but Coach Hopkins expects last year’s question mark to be this year’s exclamation mark for the team

“We’re real excited about our pitching…….”, Head Coach, Matt Hopkins

“We’re real excited about our pitching, we returned all but one pitcher last year so we brought back every arm that we had & they are a year older, we have I think eight pitchers that are juniors & seniors, we have a lot of upper level arms you know every arm we have is gonna be a college arm so the depth of our arms & the experience should be really good, I told the guys last year that they were a question mark in how we were going to do the season & this season they need to be the exclamation point, it’s definitely a strength of our team.” said Hopkins about the 2023 HoCo pitchers.

HoCo will once again play a tough non-region schedule but not just a tough non-region schedule, but a powerful non-region schedule in 2023. They will scrimmage #17 in the nation Mt. Paran Christian this Friday at 6pm which is now been moved to the Eagle’s location due to the threat of rain. HoCo’s season opener will be against #3 ranked in the state Lowndes on Monday February 13th, 2023 at 6pm.
