HoCo splits Tallahassee road trip; prepares for final region series

The Houston County Bears wrapped up their spring break trip to Tallahassee, Florida, with a split against two competitive local programs, showcasing resilience in both contests while moving to an impressive 18–5 overall record.

On Tuesday, Houston County faced the Lincoln Trojans and overcame an early deficit to secure a 7–6 victory. Lincoln capitalized on a costly Houston County error that resulted in three runs in the first inning and would ultimately lead 4-0. However, the Bears responded with determination, scoring four runs to even the game.

The turning point came in the sixth inning when Isaiah Galason drew a bases-loaded walk to give Houston County a 5–4 advantage. The Bears added two more runs later in the inning, aided by a Lincoln error off a ball put in play by Ethan Kenney, extending the lead to 7–4. Lincoln mounted a late push, narrowing the gap to one run, but Houston County held on. Tyson Ganas earned the win on the mound, pitching four solid innings.

On Wednesday, the Bears took on a talented Chiles Timberwolves squad featuring multiple Division I commits. Chiles jumped out to a 5–1 lead, putting Houston County in another early hole. Noah Odom accounted for the Bears’ first two runs, helping cut the deficit to 5–2.

Houston County once again battled back, highlighted by a three-run home run from Isaiah Galason that tied the game at 5–5. Despite the momentum shift, Chiles responded by reclaiming the lead and ultimately secured a 7–5 victory. Galason finished with three RBIs, while Odom added two. Chiles powered their offense with two home runs in the contest.

With the road trip complete, Houston County now turns its focus back to region play. After a brief break, the Bears will host the Lee County Trojans in a crucial three-game series beginning Tuesday. Houston County will need to win two of the three games to clinch the region championship.
