Lady Bears open Playoffs with win over Riverwood

The HoCo Lady Bears opened their 2023 Playoffs run against the Riverwood Lady Raiders… the 4 seed out of region 4-AAAAAA at home earlier this afternoon and the result was an 8-1 HoCo victory. The Black, Silver, and White got the scoring started in the last of the first when Arianna McKenzie hit an rbi single to run in Kendall Carswell to make the score 1-0 Lady Bears.

The host plated two more runs in the bottom of the third when Ansleigh Darby hit an rbi triple to run in Jacy Harrelson and later…. Kinley Snider grounded into fielder’s choice that would run in Ansleigh Darby to make the score 3-0 HoCo. Snider would plate the last five runs for the Lady Bears starting with a two rbi single to make the score 5-0 in the last of the fifth.

She later hit a three rbi double to make the score 8-1 Lady Bears in the last of the sixth. Riverwood plated a run in the first of the sixth with an rbi double. The Black, Silver, and White closed out the game to win 8-1 in their opening Playoffs Super Regional contest.

Kinley Snider led HoCo in rbis with six followed by Ansleigh Darby and Arianna McKenzie with one each. HoCo SP Ally Fleming surrendered one run (earned) on five hits, walking one, and striking out four in six innings of work. Tess Rollins came in to relieve Fleming in the seventh and gave up no runs on one hit, walking none, and striking out three.

Riverwood’s pitchers surrendered eight runs (four earned), walking three, and striking out three. HoCo improves to 27-3 overall and will play later tonight at 7pm against the winner of Lovejoy-Effingham Co and the Rebels lead their game 11-0 in the top of the second as of this writing.

The Lady Bears had seven hits and committed no errors while the Lady Raiders had six hits and committed five errors.
