Lady Warhawks down Demonettes; Demons have historic offensive night in win

The Veterans basketball teams hosted county rival Warner Robins earlier tonight and the result was a split between the two as the Lady Warhawks won and the Warner Robins boys won.

The girls’ game started of relatively close as the visitors led 14-11 after one and opened up to a 19-11 lead in the second before Veterans ended the first half on a 16-7 run to lead 27-26 at the break. Veterans opened up the lead after trading it with Warner Robins briefly in the early part of third and the host took a 51-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Demonettes were behind by as much as 11 pts before cutting the gap down to four but could not get any closer as the Lady Warhawks would win 62-56 to open the 2024 side of the schedule.

Gabby Minus led Veterans in scoring with 20 pts followed by Rionna Byrd with 13 pts and Warner Robins was led in scoring by Trintee Thomas with 17 pts followed by Tori Davis with 11 pts.

The Lady Warhawks improve to 9-4 overall while the Demonettes fall to 10-2 overall after having their 7-game win streak snapped.

The boys game would be a massive amount of offense and little defense as the Demons would dominate the Warhawks by winning 130-100. The visitors started off hot by getting out to a 10 pt lead in the first two or so minutes of the game before Veterans closed the gap down some before the Demons caught fire again and led 31-24 after one quarter of play.

Warner Robins doubled its lead in the second and led 57-43 at the half and after a pretty even third quarter… the lead would be 91-76 Demons. The visitors put up a whopping 39 pts in the fourth quarter to win 130-100 over Veterans.

Gabe Jacobs led the Demons in scoring with a staggering 50 pts (31 in the second half) and made 14 three pt shots in the contest (nine in the second half) followed by Jay Johnson with 29 pts and Cam Perkins with 23 pts. Chandler Thomas led the Warhawks in scoring with 30 pts followed by Aiden Sweenor with 23 pts, Tone Scott with 17 pts, Jordan Watson with 11 pts, and Tristan Abner with 10 pts.

Warner Robins improves to 7-5 overall while Veterans falls to 8-5 overall. The Warner Robins teams will get back into region play as they travel to play Ola on Friday and the Veterans teams will re-enter region play at Tift Co on Friday.
