Warhawks fall to Peach late

The Veterans Warhawks hosted the Peach County Trojans for what was scheduled to be a non-region doubleheader, but weather ultimately limited the evening to just one completed game.

Game one began as a pitcher’s duel, with both teams held scoreless through the first two innings. Veterans broke through in the bottom of the third when Trey Byrd delivered an RBI single to give the Warhawks a 1–0 lead. Peach County struggled offensively early, with its first 13 batters retired before finally recording a baserunner in the fifth inning. They capitalized on that momentum, tying the game 1–1 later in the inning.

Veterans responded in the bottom of the sixth, as Landin Grant came through with a clutch two-out RBI single to reclaim a 2–1 advantage. However, the game shifted big time in the top of the seventh inning. Peach County erupted for five runs, turning a one-run deficit into a commanding 6–2 lead. They then shut down Veterans in the bottom half to secure the victory.

Game two started competitively, with both teams scoring a run in the first inning. Veterans regained a 2–1 lead in the third, but worsening weather conditions — including lightning — forced officials to cancel the remainder of the game. As a result, the second game does not count.

With only one official result on the night, Peach County walked away with a 6–2 win. Warhawks’ starting pitcher Bradley Lenz recorded nine strikeouts in the contest.

Veterans now turns its focus back to region play. The Warhawks are set to host Coffee next Tuesday in a pivotal matchup. The Warhawks will clinch a playoff berth with a win or a Lee Co loss to HoCo.
