Game of the Week

Warner Robins outlasts Veterans

In a back-and-forth rivalry clash at Freedom Field, the Warner Robins Demons rallied late and sealed the win in dramatic fashion with a 98-yard interception return, defeating the Veterans Warhawks 27–17 on Friday night.

The first half saw both defenses control the pace. Veterans struck first with 8:24 left in the second quarter when Tylan Glover broke free for a 73-yard touchdown run to put the Warhawks up 7–0. Warner Robins answered with just over two minutes before halftime, as Jaden Hill capped off a six-play, 40-yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown run. After a penalty on the extra point, the Demons went for two, and quarterback Lekevious Bryant powered it in, giving Warner Robins an 8–7 halftime lead.

The third quarter brought fireworks on both sides. Glover scored again for Veterans on an eight-yard run, putting the Warhawks back on top 14–8 with 3:59 left. But Warner Robins quickly responded as Bryant connected with X’zavier Cannon for an electrifying 83-yard touchdown strike, flipping the lead back to the Demons, 15–14, late in the third.

In the fourth, Veterans regained the advantage when David Drake drilled a 45-yard field goal after a grinding 14-play drive, pushing the Warhawks ahead 17–15 with seven minutes left.

The Demons answered once more, marching 10 plays from their own 47-yard line, with Hill punching in his second touchdown of the night from nine yards out. The score gave Warner Robins a 21–17 lead with 1:33 remaining.

Veterans had one last chance and drove deep into Demon territory, aided by a fourth-down conversion and a pass interference penalty. With three seconds left, a desperation pass was intercepted by Jamarcus Allen at the two-yard line. Allen raced 98 yards the other way for a game-sealing pick-six, resulting in the final score of 27-17.

Warner Robins (3-2) will travel to Wayne Co. next week and Veterans (2-3) will face HoCo at Freedom Field.
