Bears obliterate Alpharetta in Atlanta

The Houston Co Bears opened their 2024 season in Atlanta at the Corky Kell and Dave Hunter Classic at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the Alpharetta Raiders and the result was a dominant 57-10 HoCo victory to start off at 1-0. The Black, Silver, and White scored the game’s first 14 pts to lead 14-0 before Alpharetta booted a field goal to make the score 14-3 in favor of HoCo.

The Bears scored another TD and the PAT made the score 21-3 in favor of the Black, Silver, and White and the Raiders responded with a TD of their own and the PAT made the score 21-10 HoCo. The Bears would blow the game open in the second to extend it’s lead to 43-10 which would be the score at the half. The Black, Silver, and White would outscore Alpharetta 14-0 in the second half to win the contest 57-10.

HoCo utility player Gavin Kurpis, who missed half of last season with an injury, had an explosive day with five of the Bears’ eight touchdowns in the contest. The Black, Silver, and White are 1-0 to start 2024 and will host the Effingham Co Rebels next Friday while Alpharetta opens 2024 at 0-1 and will host the Kell Longhorns next Friday Night.

The 57 pts that HoCo scored today are the most pts scored in a season opening game in program history, beating out the 56 pts scored in last season’s opener against Sumter Co. The Bears never scored 50 ore more pts in a season opening game in their previous 32 seasons.
