Bears sweep TCC; Punch ticket to the State Playoffs

The HoCo Bears made the over two hour trip to Thomasville to take on the Thomas Co Central Yellowjackets in a key region doubleheader and the result was a Black, Silver, and White sweep by winning Game One 9-5 and winning Game Two 14-2 in five innings. Game One would be an offensive battle as the visitors got the scoring started in the top of the first when Logan Elble grounded out and drove in Kendall Jackson and Vick Gann to make the score 2-0 HoCo.

The Black, Silver, and White would push it’s lead to 6-2 through two and a half innings of play but the Jackets would plate three runs in the last of the third to close the gap down to 6-5 heading into inning four. The Bears would pull back away and end Game One on a 3-0 run over the final four innings to win 9-5 to win the region series. Logan Elble led the visitors in rbis with three followed by Kendall Jackson with two, and Vick Gann and Will Allen with one a piece.

HoCo SP Max Willhide had a sluggish outing as he surrendered five earned runs on six hits, walking three, and striking out five in four innings of work. Reliever Tyson Ganas pitched the remaining three innings and shut down TCC by surrendering no runs on one hit, walking none, and striking out one in the process.

Game Two would see the host strike first by taking a 1-0 lead but the Bears would respond in the top half of the second by tying the game via an Ethan Buffone score by a passed ball. The game would remain tied with two outs on the board when Kendall Jackson hit a two rbi single to drive in Will Allen and Noah Odom to give the Black, Silver, and White a 3-1 lead.

Vick Gann would hit an rbi single to drive in Kendall Jackson to make the score 4-1 and Isaiah Galason would hit an rbi double to drive in Vick Gann to make the score 5-1 HoCo going into the last of the second. The Bears would continue the onslaught over the next three innings by going on a 9-1 run to win Game Two 14-2 in five innings to clean sweep the region series over TCC and clinch a Playoff berth.

Kendall Jackson led the Bears in rbis in Game Two with four followed by Noah Odom with three and Vick Gann, Isaiah Galason, Will Allen, and Raymond Byrd with one a piece. Bears’ SP for Game Two.. Tucker Hale pitched for 3 and 2/3rds innings.. surrendering two earned runs on one hit, walking three, and striking out seven in the process while relievers Ethan Kenney and Ethan Buffone pitched the remaining inning and a third surrendering no runs on two hits, walking none, and striking out two.

HoCo improves to 16-3 overall; 9-0 in region play and will take a 10-game win streak back home to take on Coffee next Tuesday.
