Demonettes dominate; Demons hold off Wayne Co

The Warner Robins basketball teams hosted the Wayne Co Yellowjackets in a region battle earlier tonight and the result was a Cardinal, Black, and White sweep with the girls cruising to a 54-21 victory and the boys winning a close battle 63-58. The girls’ game would be all Demonettes from the start as they would lead 17-0 after one and 28-3 at halftime.

The host would go on to win 54-21 to sweep the regular season series against the Lady Jackets. Madyson Jones led Warner Robins in scoring with 12 points. The boys’ game would be much closer as the Demons would lead 16-9 after one, 35-24 at halftime, and 48-37 after three quarters of play.

The host would have a lead of up to 13 points twice in the second half but would lead 55-44 before the visitors got on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to four down the stretch. Warner Robins would start making baskets at the most critical time to ultimately go on to win 63-58 to split the regular season series against Wayne Co.

Gavyn Williams led the Cardinal, Black, and White in scoring with 18 points followed by Tyler Harris with 14 points, Tristan Warren with 12 points, and Rhykeem Ashley with 11 points. Wayne Co’s Dwayne Smith tallied 27 points and eclipsed 1,000 career points scored in tonight’s contest. The Demonettes improve to 17-3 overall; 4-0 in region play while the Demons improve to 10-10 overall; 5-1 in region play.

Warner Robins boys lost six in a row to sit at 4-10 earlier in the season and are now currently on a six-game win streak.
