After a strong showing in LaGrange; Bears prep for region play

The Houston County Bears are coming off a three-game trip to the LaGrange Invitational with a 2-1 showing, moving their season record to 7-2.

Houston County originally planned to open the tournament against the LaGrange Grangers, but rain postponed that matchup. Instead, the Bears opened Friday night against the Lambert Longhorns. Trailing 3-2 late, Houston County rallied to tie the game and secured a 4-3 walk-off victory.

On Saturday morning, the Bears faced host LaGrange and delivered a strong all-around performance. Houston County jumped out early offensively and backed it up with solid defense, earning an 8-2 win. Notably, it was the first game this season in which the Bears allowed a run yet never trailed.

Later that afternoon, Houston County took on the Northridge Jaguars out of Tuscaloosa, AL in a tightly contested matchup. The Bears fought back to tie the game and force extra innings in their longest game since 2022, stretching to 11 innings. However, Houston County ultimately fell in walk-off fashion, 7-6. Despite committing seven errors — compared to none by Northridge — the Bears still had an opportunity to win in the end.

Houston County will now turn its focus to region play, which begins tomorrow against county rival Northside.
