Bears upset at home by Lee Co

The Houston County Bears’ baseball team hosted the Lee Co Trojans in a critical region set and the result was a surprising Lee Co victory 8-2 which gives Tift Co a one game lead in the region race after their victory over Veterans. The Trojans plated a run in the first and later in the fourth inning, the visitors hit a two run jack to push their lead to 3-0 as the host’s offense struggled to get going throughout the game.

Lee Co exploded for five runs in the top half of the sixth as the Bears struggled to get outs and the visitors would take an 8-0 lead going into the last of the seventh. The Black, Silver, and White would plate two runs in the last of the seventh to avoid being shutout and those runs came via a Troy Carpenter sac fly to drive in Hudson Sherman and an Isaiah Galason groundout to drive in Ethan Buffone.

The Bears were unable to get any closer as Lee Co finished it off to get the surprising road victory over HoCo and they improve to 16-9 overall 7-6 in region play while HoCo falls to 19-7 overall; 10-3 in region play. All is not lost for HoCo as they still can win the region but they must sweep the doubleheader in Leesburg and have Tift Co split the doubleheader with Veterans and the most likely game for that to happen will be the last game of the series which is unlikely but not impossible.

The pitching for the Bears was not entirely on point as they walked seven batters in the contest but recorded nine strikeouts.
