Strong sixth inning propels Perry to the Sweet Sixteen over SE Bulloch

The Perry Panthers hosted SE Bulloch in Game Three in the First Round of the AAAA Playoffs and the result was a Panthers’ victory 12-8 to win the series and advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The visitors plated the game’s first four runs in the top of the first to lead 4-0 but the host would get the offense going in the last of the first.

Kam Vandersee got the Maroon, Gold, and White on the board by hitting a solo jack to make the score 4-1 SE Bulloch and Peyton Davis hit an rbi double to drive in Jackson Thompson to make the score 4-2 in favor of the visitors going into inning two. In the top of the fourth, the Yellowjackets plated three runs to push their lead to 7-2 going into the last of the fourth.

Perry would respond in the bottom of inning of four when Carson Shaw hit a two out three-run jack to left to drive in himself, Brady Bearden, and Nate O’Rear to make the score 7-5 in favor of SE Bulloch. The Visitors plated another run in the top of the fifth to push the lead to 8-5 which would be the score going into the last of the sixth.

The host would flip the game on it’s head in the bottom of inning six and it started when Colter Ginn hit a three rbi double to drive in Nate O’Rear, Bryce Register, and Kam Vandersee to tie the game at 8 a piece and Jackson Thompson would get Perry the lead with an rbi triple to drive in Colter Ginn to make the score 9-8 in favor of the host.

Peyton Davis kept the scoring for the Panthers going as he hit an rbi double to drive in Jackson Thompson to push the Perry lead to 10-8. Seth Harper would hit a two rbi single to drive in Peyton Davis and Brooks Stella to make the score 12-8 Panthers and that would ultimately be the final score of the contest.

The pitching for both teams were subpar but the Maroon, Gold, and White did a better job when it counted the most. Colter Ginn and Carson Shaw led the Panthers in rbis with three a piece followed by Peyton Davis and Seth Harper with two and Kam Vandersee and Jackson Thompson with one.

Perry improves to 22-7 on the season and will host the Whitewater Wildcats in the Sweet Sixteen next Wednesday in a doubleheader with the if game slated for Thursday. SE Bulloch finishes 2024 at 17-11 overall and the result in the doubleheader between these two teams was 7-5 SE Bulloch in Game One and 12-1 Perry in five in Game Two.
