The Warner Robins basketball teams were in action last night in the Region Semifinals as the Demons hosted Wayne Co and lost a heartbreaker 64-62 and the Demonettes hosted county and region foe Perry and won 57-32 to advance to the Region Championship Game. The boys’ game was a contested battle from start to finish as both teams went back and forth early on with the host going on a quick 7-0 run to end quarter one with a 17-12 lead.
The Yellowjackets would score 19 in the second quarter to take a narrow 31-30 lead into halftime and Warner Robins would score 23 in quarter three to lead 53-46 going into the final frame. The Cardinal, Black, and White would lead 55-46 in the fourth which would be the largest lead of the contest however Wayne Co would be able to cut the gap down and take the lead late.
With 1.6 seconds left and down 64-62.. the host would inbounds the pass but it was deflected by the visitors and the clock ran out to give Wayne Co the victory. Dwayne Smith led Wayne Co in scoring with 20 points followed by Ralph Doomes with 12 points, Gavin Hilton with 11 points and MJ Moore with 10 points while Gavin Williams led Warner Robins in scoring with 16 points followed by Tristan Warren with 13 points and Tristan Harris with 12 points and he fouled out of the game.
The Yellowjackets advance to the region final against Ware Co Friday Night at 8:30pm while the Demons will face Benedictine in the third place match Friday Evening at 5:30pm. The girls’ game was contested for most of the first half before the Demonettes pulled away.
The Lady Panthers scored the game’s first five points before the host scored the next six and would go on to lead 14-9 after one. The game remained close in quarter two as Warner Robins led 20-16 but would end the first half on a 9-0 run to lead 29-16 at halftime. The Cardinal, Black, and White would lead 48-24 after three and would go on to win 57-32.
Janelle Turner led the Demonettes in scoring with 21 points while Perry was led in scoring by Hayden Hattaway with seven points. Warner Robins will host Wayne Co in the region title game Friday Night at 7pm while the Lady Panthers will take on Ware Co in the third place match at 4pm Friday Afternoon.
