HoCo splits with TCC, ending Bears’ 38-game region win streak; MP shuts out Morgan Co

The Houston Co Bears baseball team hosted the Thomas Co Central Yellowjackets in a region doubleheader earlier tonight and the result was an 8-6 Bears’ victory in Game One to win the series and an 11-3 Jackets’ victory in Game Two of the doubleheader. The Black, Silver, and White led 4-2 in Game One through 4.5 innings before plating four in the last of the fifth to lead 8-2.

However, the visitors were a scrappy bunch who would end Game One on a 4-0 run to cut the gap down to 8-6 but the Bears were able to close out the game to win 8-6 to improve to 15-3 overall; 8-0 in region play and win the region series over TCC. Isaiah Galason led HoCo in rbis with three in game one, followed by Will Allen with two, and Kendall Jackson and Hudson Sherman with one each.

Landon Tankersley, Isaac Velez, and JT Withers each pitched in the afternoon game and they combined to allow six runs (four earned) on nine hits, walking three and striking out one in the process while the Yellowjackets’ pitchers combined to allow eight runs (one earned) on seven hits, walking three, and striking out one in the process.

The night game would go back and forth in the first four innings being tied at three before the Jackets slowly but surely began to pull away as HoCo’s pitching struggled to find the strike zone as well as their offense going cold throughout innings’ 5-7 as the visitors ended the game two on an 8-0 run to win 11-3 to stun the host and hand the Bears their first region loss since losing 6-0 to Valdosta on the road back in 2021.

This region loss ends the Black, Silver, and White’s 38-game region win streak, it is HoCo’s first regular season home loss since losing 7-3 to Starr’s Mill in 2021, it is also their first region home loss since 2018 (lost 4-3 to Lee Co). Vick Gann and Christian Wahiwe were responsible for both of the Bears’ rbis in the nightcap.

The host used six pitchers in Game Two and they were Tucker Hale, Max Wilhide, Logan Elble, Isaiah Galason, Brooks Willis, and Ethan Kenney and they combined to allow 11 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits, walking six, and striking out eight in the process while Thomas Co Central’s pitchers combined to allow three unearned runs on four hits, walking three, and striking out 12 in the process.

HoCo currently sits at 15-4 overall; 8-1 in region play and will look to make some much needed improvements prior to the massive region series against Tift Co who is 9-0 in region play which begins in Tifton next Tuesday Evening. TCC currently sits at 9-9 overall; 3-6 in region play and will travel to Leesburg to play the Lee Co Trojans next Tuesday and they committed 12 errors in the DH tonight.

Elsewhere; the Mary Persons Bulldogs traveled to play the Morgan Co Bears and the Bulldogs shut out the host 10-0 in five to improve to 7-8 overall and will prepare to play John Milledge Academy tomorrow at home. Wiley Smith hit a two-run jack in inning one and he led the team in rbis with three and six Bulldogs including Smith recorded an rbi in the road contest and SP Andrew Snow pitched a complete game surrendering no runs on two hits, walking one, and striking out five in the process.
