Houston County Coaching Legend Doug Johnson

Conversations with Tom Mobley is a monthly podcast series featuring coach-to-coach conversations withFranklin Battery and Electric some of Houston County and Middle Georgia’s winningest coaches. Each month, Coach Mobley will sit down with these local legends to discuss their career milestones, football insights, and personal inspirations. This month, Coach Mobley talks one-on-one with retired Coach Doug Johnson.

Doug coached at Warner Robins High School, Northside High School and Houston County High School in his coaching career. Coach Johnson was the Head Coach of the Houston County Bears from 1991 through 2006 winning nearly 150 games.  He became the head football coach and athletic director when the school opened in 1991 and guided the program through it’s infancy and into status as as a  GHSA AAAAA contender, competing in the elite eight of the playoffs in 2006,  his final year at the Bears’s helm.  Doug played for the Warner Robins Demons under Coach Joe Sumrall and at The Citidel during his college days.  We hope you enjoy this month’s “Conversations” with Coach Tom Mobley and his guest Coach Doug Johnson.

During his tenure as Head Girls Basketball Coach at Warner Robins High School, Coach Mobley amassed 416 wins, as well as coaching football, track, soccer, volleyball and tennis. These days, Coach Mobley is focused on his work and ministry with the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) in Middle Georgia, covering a 5-county area.
