The HoCo Bears hosted the Thomas Co Central Yellowjackets on Senior Day earlier this afternoon and the result was a split with the girls falling 39-34 and the boys winning in overtime 60-56. The girls’ game would be close throughout as both teams struggled to make baskets all game as TCC jumped out to an eight point lead before the host would close quarter one on a run to tie the game at 11 going into quarter two.
Quarter two would see just a combined seven points with the Lady Bears taking an 18-13 lead into halftime and the visitors would get on a run to tie the game up after trailing by seven early in the third quarter and would lead 29-28 going into the fourth. The final quarter would feature not much scoring as the Lady Jackets would pull away late to win 39-34.
Jaida Pinkins led TCC in scoring with 15 points followed by Nia Hayes with 11 points while Alaina Coley led HoCo in scoring with 13 points followed by Madison Fillingame with 10 points. The Lady Bears fall to 5-18 overall; 0-9 in region play.
The boys’ game would also be close throughout as both teams struggled to make baskets throughout the first half as HoCo would lead 11-10 after one and TCC would take a slim 23-20 lead into halftime. The second half would feature the visitors getting a seven point lead before the Bears would get turnovers and convert them into points to take a 41-37 lead heading into quarter four.
HoCo would lead 52-44 in the fourth but would go cold at the wrong time as the Yellowjackets would end regulation on an 8-0 run to send the game into overtime tied at 52 a piece. The Bears would score the first points of the extra frame and would finish off TCC to hold on and win 60-56 to sweep the regular season series.
Malik Gillespie led HoCo in scoring with 15 points followed by Braylin Mills with 10 points while Colby Mullinax led TCC in scoring with 17 points followed by Jirah Spencer with 15 points, and Quincy Anderson with 10 points. The Bears improve to 19-5 overall; 8-1 in region play and will wrap-up the regular season at Coffee next Friday Night.
Elsewhere, the Warner Robins Demons hosted Benedictine at 1pm this afternoon and got a huge region win 69-65 to keep their hopes of having the top seed in the region tournament alive. The Demons will travel to play Wayne Co on Monday.
