Perry narrowly defeats Howard

The Perry Panthers traveled to Macon to play the Howard Huskies earlier this afternoon and the result was a narrow Panthers’ victory 4-3 to sweep the Huskies. The host got the scoring started in the last of the first by plating a run to lead 1-0 and the visitors responded in the top half of the second when Seth Harper hit an rbi single to drive in Jackson Thompson to tie the game at 1 going into the bottom of the second.

Howard would retake the lead 2-1 in the last of the second and the score would remain that way until the top of the fourth. In that very frame, Perry’s Nate Sullivan would hit a two rbi double to drive in Jackson Thompson and Seth Harper while Sullivan would advance to third on the throw to give the Maroon, Gold, and White a 3-2 lead.

Nate O’Rear would hit an rbi double to drive in Nate Sullivan to make the score 4-2 Panthers. The host would cut the lead in half in the last of the fifth to trail 4-3 but the visitors were able to keep the Huskies at bay to preserve the 4-3 victory. Nate Sullivan led Perry in rbis with two followed by Nate O’Rear and Seth Harper with one each.

Panthers’ SP Miles Jones pitched five innings on the bump and surrendered three runs (two earned) on four hits, walking three, and striking out seven in the process while his reliever Casey Von Waldner pitched two relief innings and surrendered no runs on one hit, walking one, and striking out four in the process.

Howard’s SP Matthew Griffin pitched a complete game on the mound and surrendered four earned runs on nine hits, walking three, and striking out five in the process and Nate Campbell had the Huskies’ lone rbi of the contest.

Perry improves to 16-2 overall; 7-1 in region play and is scheduled to host Griffin in a region contest tomorrow but that is weather permitting and the same goes for Howard as they are scheduled to host Baldwin tomorrow and the Huskies are currently 4-10 overall, 3-4 in region play.
