Three region championships to be decided Friday Night

This upcoming Friday Night will be a marquee night overall as there will be three games that will decide the region champion in 2-AAA, 2-AAAA, and 2-AAAAA.

First up is 2-AAA between the Mary Persons Bulldogs and the Upson-Lee Knights. The Knights are 3-0 in region play and 8-1 overall with their lone loss coming to LaGrange 42-7. They shut out Pike Co and Jackson 47-0 and 43-0 and narrowly defeated Peach Co 21-20 last Friday Night. Mary Persons is 2-0 in region play and 7-1 overall with their lone loss coming back on Week 2 with a 28-20 road loss against Spalding.

The Black, Gold, and White shut out rival Jackson 49-0 and downed Peach Co in the misting rain 13-7. Upson-Lee has never beaten Mary Persons and they will host the Bulldogs this Friday Night to decide who wins the region title in 2-AAA so this game could go down to the very end.

Region 2-AAAA will come down to either the Spalding Jaguars or the Perry Panthers and this battle will occur in Griffin on Friday. The Jaguars come in at 9-0 overall and 5-0 in region play and are currently ranked #5 in AAAA. They have a big home win over Mary Persons 28-20 and a big road win over Dutchtown 41-27. The Perry Panthers come into this matchup at 7-1 overall; 4-0 in region play with their lone loss coming to rival HoCo at home 42-35 and are currently ranked #4 in AAAA.

The Maroon, Gold, and White have won the region title the last three seasons and are looking to capture a fourth consecutive region title. The Panthers’ signature win was a 54-21 thrashing of Jones Co at home back in Week 3. Spalding stunned Perry on the road two years ago winning 31-26 after the Panthers fumbled the ball inside the Jaguar 1 yd line. These two teams could have a tight battle for the duration of the game which is something Perry has not been in a region contest since that 2021 meeting between the two.

Lastly is the Region 2-AAAAA title game between the Jones Co Greyhounds and the Warner Robins Demons. The Greyhounds come in at 6-2 overall; 4-0 in region play. The Purple, Gold, Black, and White’s two losses came against Northside 33-21 and Perry 54-21. Jones Co has greatly improved as the season wore on and they now have a good chance to win the region title which did not look likely 6+ weeks ago.

The Warner Robins Demons are looking to claim their first region title since 2020 and they come into this matchup at 5-3 overall; 4-0 in region play and ranked #9 in AAAAA. The Demons have had their struggles in non-region play with three losses to Lee Co 26-19, Valdosta 45-12, and HoCo 41-7 and they had to rally from 18 down to defeat Northside 39-35 and 20 down to defeat Dutchtown on the road in region play. The Cardinal, Black, and White downed Ola 28-27 when they converted a two pt try at the end of the game.

This game will feature current Demons QB and former Greyhounds QB Judd Anderson so this matchup will have a little bit of everything in it and could go all the way down to the wire at McConnell-Talbert Stadium.
