Warner Robins defeats HoCo in a high-scoring barn burner

The Houston County Bears hosted county rival Warner Robins earlier tonight at Freedom Field and the Cardinal, White, and Black would win a high-scoring contest over the Bears 54-44 in the highest scoring game in rivalry history (98 points). The game would be 17-13 in favor of HoCo at halftime and the Black, Silver, and White would push it’s lead to 24-13 early in the third but the Demons would answer with a touchdown and the PAT would make the score 24-20 Bears.

The visitors would recover a fumble and would go 49 yards downfield for a touchdown that was scored via a Rasean Dinkins two yard rush and the PAT made the score 27-24 in favor of Warner Robins with 4:52 left in the third. The rest of the game would go back and forth with neither defense getting a stop until late in the contest.

Early in the fourth quarter, Bears’ QB AJ Hill found Gavin Kurpis on a 29 yard touchdown pass and the PAT made the score 31-27 in favor of the host with 10:47 remaining in the contest. The Demons would immediately answer when Rasean Dinkins scored on a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and the PAT would be no good and the score read 33-31 Warner Robins with 10:33 left in the game.

HoCo would retake the lead 37-33 with 9:01 remaining and the Cardinal, Black, and White would return the favor with seven points of their own to retake the lead 40-37 with 7:34 left. Less than two in-game minutes later, AJ Hill found Austin Stinson for a 24 yard touchdown reception and the PAT made the score 44-40 Bears with 5:39 remaining in the game.

The Demons would answer once more with a 59 yard touchdown drive and the PAT made the score 47-44 Warner Robins with 2:11 left and their defense stepped up with a four-and-out to force the turnover on downs and would later put the game to bed with a Da’veon Latimore 10 yard rush touchdown and the PAT made it 54-44 Demons with 1:03 remaining and that would be the final score of the contest.

Demons QB Skyler Williams had 174 rush yards and three touchdowns on 17 rushes and Bears’ QB AJ Hill had 24 pass completions for 269 yards for HoCo. Warner Robins improves to 3-1 on the season and will have next week off before hosting county rival Veterans in two weeks while HoCo falls to 3-1 on the season and will travel to play Tift Co next Friday.
