Bulldogs open region play with shutout win; Greyhounds fall

The Mary Persons Bulldogs opened region play earlier tonight at home against Fayette Co and the result was a dominate Black, Gold, and White shutout victory by a final score of 55-0. The Bulldogs put the game to bed by halftime with a 42-0 lead and they would score 13 more points in the second half to win 55-0 over the Tigers.

Mary Persons improves 3-0 overall; 1-0 in region play and will host Troup next Friday while Fayette Co falls to 0-3 overall; 0-1 in region play and will host LaGrange next Friday.

Elsewhere; the Jones Co Greyhounds made their first road trip of 2024 when they traveled to Henry Co to play the Ola Mustangs and the result of this game was a low-scoring 7-3 Mustangs victory. The Purple, Gold, and White opened the game by driving the ball all the way down to the Ola 1-yard line but the host would make a goal line stand to keep Jones Co off the board.

Jacob Watts got the Greyhounds on the board by making a 31 yard field goal to score the game’s first 3 points with 10:21 left in the second. Ola’s Macklin Sanders would score on a two yard touchdown run and the PAT would make the score 7-3 Mustangs with 3:51 remaining in the first half and believe it or not, it would be the last points scored in the contest.

The visitors had a 34 yard touchdown pass get taken off the board by an offensive holding call late in the third quarter. The host kept the score at 7-3 for the rest of the game to win 7-3 for the second consecutive week. Jones Co’s Javion Solomon was the offensive player of the game while Daniel Hawk was the defensive player of the game.

The Greyhounds fall to 3-1 overall; 2-1 in region play and will host Locust Grove next Friday while Ola remains undefeated at 4-0 overall; 3-0 in region play.
