Bears’ Allen shines on the mound; offense lackluster in shutout win over Veterans

The HoCo Bears’ baseball team hosted county rival Veterans earlier tonight and the result was a surprising low-scoring victory 3-0 over the Red, White, Black, and Blue. The Black, Silver, and White got the scoring started early in the last of the first when Vick Gann hit a sac-fly that would drive in Kendall Jackson to make the score 1-0 Bears which would be the score through 5 1/2 innings of play.

The host would add some insurance in the last of the sixth when Ethan Buffone hit an rbi single to drive in Noah Odom to make the score 2-0 HoCo and Ty Waters added to the lead with an rbi single deep to left to drive in Ethan Buffone to make the score 3-0 in favor of the host. Caleb Adkinson went for the steal of home plate but was picked off to end the last of the sixth and this would be the final score of the region contest.

Ethan Buffone, Ty Waters, and Vick Gann were responsible for the Bears’ three rbis tonight and SP Will Allen had another fantastic pitching performance as 55 of his 75 pitches went for strikes and he surrendered no runs on one hit, walking none, and striking out six in a complete game on the bump.

Warhawks’ SP Noah Fries surrendered three earned runs on seven hits, walking two, and striking out three in 5 1/3 innings of work while his reliever Bryce Dryden surrendered no runs on no hits, walking none, and striking out none in 2/3 innings of relief work. The Bears improve to 11-3 overall; 4-0 in region play while Veterans falls to 7-4 overall; 1-3 in region play. These two squads will faceoff at the Warhawks’ Nest in a doubleheader on Thursday as thunderstorms are in the forecast Friday.

Just prior to the game commencing, HoCo honored its 2014 state championship winning team as it is their 10th anniversary and they laid the groundwork to where the Bears have gotten to today.
