Bears rally on senior night to edge Harlem 5–4 in thrilling rematch

On Senior Night, the Houston County Bears delivered a gritty comeback victory over the Harlem Bulldogs, earning a 5–4 win in a tightly contested rematch between two of Georgia’s top programs.

Just days after falling to Harlem 5–4 on a walk-off in Columbia County, Houston County found itself in another battle. The Bulldogs struck first, taking a 1–0 lead in the opening inning and maintaining control through the early frames. Harlem extended its advantage in the fourth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting to push the lead to 4–0 after a three-run surge.

But the Bears responded quickly in the bottom half of the fourth. Peyton Nauss sparked the rally with a clutch two-RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4–2. Houston County added another run later in the inning to make it 4–3, shifting momentum firmly in their favor.

The comeback effort continued in the fifth. With two outs and nobody on, the Bears strung together key hits to keep the inning alive. Senior Ethan Kenney delivered the pivotal moment, driving in the game-tying run with an RBI single to even the score at 4–4. Moments later, Isaiah Galason raced home on a passed ball to give Houston County its first lead of the night at 5–4.

From there, the Bears’ defense and pitching held strong, shutting down Harlem’s offense over the final innings to secure the win.

With the victory, Houston County improves to 21–7 on the season and earns a split in the season series against Harlem. The Bears now turn their attention to their regular-season finale on Friday, when they face the Jones County Greyhounds in a rematch from earlier this year at home.
