Eagles run over Howard on the road, Panthers down Peach Co at home

The Northside Eagles baseball team hit the road to Macon to play the Howard Huskies earlier this afternoon and they got back on the winning track by defeating Howard 13-3 in five innings. Northside jumped on the Huskies to lead 2-0 in the top of the first before the host tied the game at two in the last of the first before the Eagles blew the game open by plating eight runs in inning two to lead 10-2.

Howard plated a third run in the last of the fourth and Northside plated three more runs in the top of the fifth to lead 13-3 and they kept the host off the board in the bottom of the fifth to win 13-3. Jesus Gil and Jayden Baker led the Eagles in rbis with two a piece followed by Justin Canceran, Marty Dietrich, Conner Beck, and Emerson Rugama with one. Howard had no rbis in the contest.

Northside SP Emerson Rugama pitched all five innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits, walking four, and striking out six while the Huskies pitchers combined to allow 13 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits, walking five, and striking out four in the process. The Eagles had 11 hits and committed three errors while Howard had two hits and committed five errors.

Northside improves to 3-5 overall and will prep to play CFCA next Monday at home while the Huskies fell to 1-6 overall and will travel to Spalding Co to play the Griffin Bears on Friday in a region battle.

Elsewhere, the Perry Panthers were back in action tonight at home as they played the Peach Co Trojans and won 6-2 thanks to a five run last of the third inning. Carson Shaw led the Panthers in rbis with two followed by Colter Ginn with one while Thomas Gregory recorded the Trojans’ lone rbi of the contest.

Pitching was the overall story of this battle as Perry’s SP Connor Langdon went five innings surrendering one run (unearned) on three hits, walking five, and striking out 11 in the process while his reliever Miles Jones surrendered one run (unearned) on one hit, walking two, and striking out five in two innings of relief work.

Peach Co’s SP Jackson Peavy pitched for four innings and he surrendered five runs (four earned) on five hits, walking four, and striking out 11 while his reliever DJ Hudson surrendered one run (unearned) on no hits, walking two, and striking out three in three innings of relief work. Both teams combined for 30 strikeouts tonight and both committed one error while Perry had five hits and Peach Co had four hits.

The Panthers improve to 8-1 overall and will travel to take on Baldwin tomorrow evening in a region battle while the Trojans will host ACE Charter on Saturday Night after suffering their first loss of 2024 and sit at 7-1 overall.
